I like drawing this girl’s hairstyle. It’s not using any actual style as a reference (not on purpose anyway); it’s made up, but it’s still fun to draw. Not much of a story behind this one. Just drawing stuff out of nothing better to do, really.
Alright, I said there was kind of a fun backstory behind this character. I'm gonna keep it short and focused, so this doesn't go on forever. This is Amanda. She's the first original character I did any design work for in a formal writing context. She's changed a lot since then, but here's roughly where she is now: Being myself, I had, while doing re-writes a while back, improvised a line of dialogue while outlining a scene for her involving her having to awkwardly tuck an erection into her waistband, and decided to run with that in the book and actually implement that into her character. That side of her took off from there. Amanda has made the leap between two VASTLY disparate professions, which has kind of defined the themes of the book for me.
