Alright, I said there was kind of a fun backstory behind this character. I'm gonna keep it short and focused, so this doesn't go on forever.

This is Amanda. She's the first original character I did any design work for in a formal writing context. She's changed a lot since then, but here's roughly where she is now:

Being myself, I had, while doing re-writes a while back, improvised a line of dialogue while outlining a scene for her involving her having to awkwardly tuck an erection into her waistband, and decided to run with that in the book and actually implement that into her character. That side of her took off from there.

Amanda has made the leap between two VASTLY disparate professions, which has kind of defined the themes of the book for me. See, she currently has a degree in robotics engineering and programming, and is working on a project to build a human level A.I., having come from her previous career as a porn actress.

The fact that her previous career involved a lot of walking around a film set nude in front of a bunch of cast and crew to film her fucking various women has completely obliterated any sense of sexual shame in her whatsoever. Her motivation for working on the project she joined is something she openly broadcasts without hesitation: "I want me a robot wife, damn it!"

It speaks to one of the things I like in science fiction, the idea of looking at how real, actual human beings might use the technology of the future. In particular, Amanda's (still unnamed, somehow) book touches on humanity developing human-level A.I. for the sake of companionship, and to fulfill the innate human desire for intimacy, and Amnda's career history means she doesn't lie to herself or others about why she's working towards humanlike robots. And even though she quit porn acting, she still illustrates robot-themed erotica in her free time.

In short, Amanda's a former porn actress with a robot fetish who became a scientist to throw all of her intellect into creating a robot wife for herself. (She was smart enough to be doing science before then; she was only doing porn in the first place because "I have a natural talent for this, said natural talent being that I am a girl with a dick".)
